The film
Be a Body is a feminist science fiction short film set in the near future, following Ava Rowan, a brilliant biometrics engineer working in a male-dominated AI company. Exhausted by subtle sexism and daily microaggressions, Ava makes a radical decision: she creates an AI fem-bot clone of herself to take her place at work so she can escape the system she feels trapped in.
What begins as an act of liberation slowly reveals a darker truth , that even outside her own body, the female form remains vulnerable to the very systems that built it.
Blending satire, psychological drama, and grounded sci-fi realism, Be a Body explores urgent questions about artificial intelligence, misogyny in tech culture, the commodification of the female body, and the ethics of AI companionship. Inspired by contemporary developments in humanoid robotics and the rapidly growing “sex-tech” industry , the film reflects how emerging technologies risk reinforcing existing gender inequalities rather than dismantling them.
This project is my undergraduate thesis film and is currently in development. We are preparing for production, location bookings, art direction, and final technical execution.
There for need your help.
The process
Be a Body is being built entirely from the ground up as an independent thesis production.
I am leading every stage of development and pre-production — from writing and research to production design, branding, costume, makeup, and art direction. I am overseeing casting, scheduling, logistics, and world-building, while collaborating closely with a small crew in cinematography and sound.
Every element of the film’s universe ,from the corporate AI branding to the physical design of the fem-bot , is being developed in-house. This hands-on process allows the project to remain conceptually cohesive while I deepen my understanding of each department through direct practice.
As an independent student filmmaker, this project is as much about learning through doing as it is about the final product.
